See the information from Tony Plutino below regarding the next WinterFisch release happening today on the Llano River!
On Wednesday, February 3rd at approximately 10:30am one-thousand Rainbow trout will be released into the Llano River at the James River Crossing on Highway 2389. Please come out for the release if you have time and are curious about the process. The TPWD fishery staff are always happy to answer any questions about the Rainbow Trout Stocking Program and the state’s fisheries.
The 4th Annual Mason County WinterFisch kicked off on December 3rd, 2020 with the WinterFisch Celebration. The opening day event went very well and was well attended. We were very fortunate to have nice weather.
Since that time hundreds of local and visiting fishers have taken advantage of this fun family-oriented fishing event that shows off a very special section of the Llano River. Fishers range from the brand-new, first time child fisher to the seasoned well-equipped, fully decked-out fly fisher, and everything in between.
TPWD kindly tags about 3% of the fish with red and yellow tags that can be redeemed for prizes. So far nine tags have been redeemed to the delight of many fishers. Many great prizes remain to be claimed. All tag entrants are automatically entered into a raffle at the end of the season for some great grand prizes. This year we have a Temple Fork Outfitters Fly Fishing Rod and Reel Combo donated by Living Waters Fly Fishing (Round Rock), a two-night cabin stay from Dos Rios RV Park & Campground (Mason), a two-night RV stay at Don Gray’s Fish Camp (Mason), a two-night stay in Merlin’s Cabin from Jerialice Arsenault of Riversounds Campground (Castell), and a day-sailing adventure from Phil and Cheryl Becket (Galveston).
Mason County WinterFisch is only possible thanks to our many generous sponsors. We thank you for your support. We hope to see some of you at the second release. If you have any questions or suggestions for improvements please let me know.
